3D scanning

Together with the propeller tests, the fuselage mold was 3D-scanned and compared to the CAD model in order to check dimensions and tolerances.

Propeller tests

Different propellers of various geometry configurations (2 or 3 blades) and design, provided by more several different suppliers were tested and their performances compared.

Undressing the Panthera

The beautiful livery was removed on demand of the chief aerodynamics expert, prof. dr. Veble: it was time for high-speed air tests!

Aerodynamic tests

Woolen threads were placed on wing-fuselage fairing, T-tail and fuselage top&bottom, for deep aerodynamic behaviour investigation.

Second stage of tests

In September Panthera had to endure the cecond phase of tests:
Precision sensors, force gauges, potentiometers, accelerometers and a pitot probe
were installed all over the aircraft together with a data acquisition unit to record relevant flight data.

Ground vibration tests

In August the ground vibration tests were completed by Zuverlässigkeitstechnik in Hamburg – Germany.

First stage of tests is finished

In July 2013, when the first stage of tests was successfully completed, the aircraft was disassembled for check-up and minor improvements.

EASA audit

In June 2013 EASA audits Pipistrel. EASA Test Pilot Dominique Roland flies the Panthera and reports a very well designed, well-built and balanced airplane.

Summer tests

Stability & controllability tests, early performance tests at different weight & CG combinations, envelope expansion up to 4G and VNE, stalls, fuel consumption, engine-propeller combination....
Panthera takes all the tests - and passes them with flying colours.

Landing gear retraction

April 8th : Second flight, first landing gear retraction in flight.
Panthera finally flies in all its glory over the heads of Pipistrel engineers and technicians.

Maiden flight

April 7th : Steering, brake, fast taxi, accelerate & stop test were successfully completed.
First lift-off and aborted take-off tests.
First flight!
The maiden flight lasted approx 40' and basic flight characteristics were tested. Landing gear was maintained in the extracted position.

First roll-out and engine start-up.

The aircraft completed first taxi tests on grass surface.
The airplane was then disassembled and moved to Cerklje military airport (Slovenija). The airport provides a hard surface and extremely long runway, which was chosen for safety reasons.
